The Astor Building
217 Broadway
New York, NY 10007
The Perfect Location
Having undergone extensive renovations to the original structure as well as a three-story addition, the Astor Building was purchased by Columbus Properties, Inc. in 1983.
Located at 217 Broadway between Vesey and Barclay Streets, the Astor Building resides on the site of the original Astor Hotel. Built by John Jacob Astor, the hotel was constructed between 1832 and 1836 in order to provide comfortable living accommodations for New York’s elite. Designed by renowned architect Isaiah Rogers, the Astor Hotel consisted of an unprecedented 300 bedrooms and 17 “bathing rooms”. The Astor Hotel stood for 80 years, until 1914 when the south half was demolished to create the Astor Office Building.
The building is flanked on either side by landmarks such as, St. Paul’s Chapel and City Hall in the heart of downtown Manhattan.
With the renovation’s uncovering of the original lobby and some of the Astor Hotel’s timeless marble interior, its restoration will serve as stark reminders of the building’s luxurious past and hearken a future equally as grand for 217 Broadway.
